We are proud to consider ourselves 5 star dog friendly AND horse friendly self-catering holiday accommodation on Exmoor! Now there’s no excuse to not take your horse on holiday to Exmoor! After a recent full inspection, we were also pleased to announce that we were awarded the full “Horses Welcome” accreditation from the British Horse Society. Check out our listing here on the British Horse Society website’s recommendations for where to stay and ride in the UK.
As for the riding…. well what can we say?! You will find bridlepaths almost directly from the farm leading you right up onto the moor with barely any roadwork needed. We know some great routes to follow with our own horses, so if you’re not sure which way to go, just ask!
Escorted Rides
We are also happy to accompany you on your horses and show you some lovely routes on the bridleways of Exmoor. For example, a circular ride to the iconic Tarr Steps (with a stop for a cheeky drink or a sandwich at the Tarr Farm Inn!) takes approximately 4 or 4.5 hours.
The image above shows some recent guests staying in The Piggery cottage enjoying an escorted ride with us on Winsford Hill. Spot the wild Exmoor ponies in the background!
Horse Guest Facilities at Stockham Farm
Guests staying in either cottage at Stockham Farm can guarantee a 5 star holiday for themselves and their horses. Guests will be able to see their horses in the paddocks from their cottage, and the stables are right here on the farm too – visible from The Piggery dining room window!
If you’d like to bring your horse or pony to stay with us during your holiday, please do get in touch to discuss. We are an experienced equestrian/hunting family, so feel free to ask us what you need to know!
We have ample indoor stabling at Stockham Farm for a maximum of six guest horses or ponies. Our main paddocks are pretty flat, and two have roomy field shelters too. Hay and straw are included in the DIY livery price of £25 per horse/pony per night. Turnout only price is £15 per horse/pony per night. We can also offer warm wash off, a secure heated tack room and plenty of room for parking your trailer(s) or horsebox(s) too.
Horse Hirelings on Exmoor
So where better to bring your animals than for long rides across the Exmoor National Park, with a splash in the River Barle along the way, of course! If you’d like to ride whilst at Stockham Farm without bringing your own horse, we can also recommend where to contact hirelings locally, such as Exmoor Hirelings. Or if you would prefer to have some horseriding lessons or organised treks across the moor, we have links with some great local, friendly riding stables – such as Pine Lodge, Brendon Manor and West Anstey Farm Stables. We regret we cannot offer our own horses for guests to ride.
